How long does it take to get a new website online?
It varies, but I’ve been able to register a new domain name, set up hosting services, establish an email address, and design five accessible and fully functional web pages within five hours. In most cases, your basic website will be online within 24 hours and completely ready to fine tune the design within 48 hours.
Do I have to register my domain name through ALowCostWebsite?
No. If you have a domain name now, or if you want to use another registration service, that is fine. However, you will likely save a lot of money by registering or transferring your domain with ALCW because the cost is very low (in comparison) and I can resolve any problems for you more quickly. If you prefer to use another domain registry, that is fine, but it will take a little longer and be a little more complicated to get your new site ready to go.
Who will actually do the design and support work for my new website?
I do (John Hoyle). If custom art work is required, that will be assigned to another vendor or design expert. If a specialized eCommerce package is required, then that too will be delegated to a specialist.
How will photos or other art work be added to my site?
I will arrange to get your graphic materials from you by mail or courier. If you wish and are technically able, you can scan them into your computer and attach them to emails and forward them to me. I will be happy to optimize and resize photos and graphics as needed at no additional charge.
I want my website to appear on Google and Yahoo search engines. How do you get that to happen?
All of the client sites that I design and support typically show up on the first page of Google’s organic search for the keywords and page titles. I optimize all of the sites I create for maximum search engine exposure. I do not use so-called “black hat” methods, but do use some secret methods that I’ve learned over the years that have been very successful.
How do I get corrections or changes made to my website?
Send me an email describing the problem or change that you need to have modified. In most cases, corrections and updates are completed within 24 hours. If you are using my hosting and support services, changes are included at no additional fee over the quarterly charges. If you are using another hosting service, then the changes may take up to 72 hours and there will be an additional service charge. There are no additional charges for correcting any errors I make or for restoring service.
I’ll need help with some of the text I want on the website. Can I get someone to do my copy writing?
I offer basic editing as part of the site setup. I will also do some basic copywriting if you provide me with an outline and source materials. If you need extensive text additions you may hire a freelance writer or I will give you a quote if I can do it for you. Most of my website designs allow you to login and create your own text right from your own computer. I will teach you how to do that as part of my basic support.
I need something very special because I am a [fill in the blank] and need my new website to [fill in the blank]. Can you make this happen?
Best approach is to just call me at 503-949-7055 and let’s talk about what you do and what you want your website to show. If I can’t or won’t do it, I won’t waste your time.
I already have a website, but it is unacceptable because [fill in the problem] and I want a new design or to have it repaired. Will you do this for me?
Many of my clients had or have websites that they are not happy with for one reason or another. I will be happy to look at the site and make suggestions or give you a quote for any redesign or repair work required. Most of my clients opt for me to take down the old site and put up a new one for them. This is often a far more effective and satisfying way to fix or update an otherwise unsatisfactory website. It is usually less expensive as well.
